Welcome, Humanity!

“In a world full of doors, the only division that mattered now were between those who sought the right of passage and those who would deny them passage” (Mohsin Hamid, Exit West).

In only eight days, 1800 migrants arrived in Palermo. They went ashore from two different ships, the Vos Prudence (Medecins sans Frontieres) and the Diciotti, from the Italian Coastguard. Two different arrivals and two different stories... A different approach to the reality of immigration.

“They are trouble, that is the true reason behind the slander”

Currently, the Italian media is mounting a large-scale smear campaign targeting organizations for civil marine salvage in the Mediterranean. Not only Frontex but also prosecutors and politicians try to discredit NGOs. A status report from Italy by Judith Gleitze, borderline-europe Sicily.

Died at age 15 on a ship of Doctors Without Borders, “Beaten up in Libya and left without water and food for days”

Via Meridionews – The ship of Doctors Without Borders that was moored at the harbor of Augusta today saved 300 migrants and brought one body. It is the body of a fifteen-year-old Somali boy. When he was found with the other refugees in the Sicilian canal two days ago, his condition was severe but not critical. Aboard, he was treated immediately by the NGO’s paramedics and seemed to respond well to the treatment. Yesterday, however, he died of heart failure.
