A Dog Is Worth More Than A Black
At Campobello di Mazara, a dog can be cured by a vet with the help of €2,000 from the local council, while at the same time, the money apparently cannot be found to guarantee some support – and a little dignity – for thw 1,800 migrants who harvest our olives. This sliver of news found while scrolling online once again confirms that migrants are worth less than nothing: we can take away all of their freedom and rights because we see them as animals, less worthy than even cats and dogs.

Criminalising Those Who Rescue, Supporting Those Who Arm: The New Strategies Of The War On Migrants
The Golfo Azzurro, the vessel belonging to the NGO Proactiva, arrived at the port of Catania on Thursday morning with 490 migrants on board, including a group who had survived a shipwreck. At least eight people died, the bodies of whom were transferred to the Vos Hestia (Save the Chidren) although there are strong suspicions that many other bodies have disappeared, swallowed up all too quickly by the sea.

Deaths, Rejections and Vulnerable Detentions in the Pozzallo Hotspot: The Daily Tragedy of Those Fleeing to Europe
On
average there are four landings every week at Sicilian ports alone,
along with dozens of deaths and an imprecise number of people missing
at sea. We're at the beginning of December, but the departures from
Libya continue, with ever less certainty of arriving in Europe. The
first round of shared training between the Libyan Coast Guard and the
Italian Navy has just come to a conclusion on board the navy vessel
San
Giorgio,
carried out by the European Union Naval Force, within the remit of
the EUNAVFORMED operation Sophia. At the same time, the various
humanitarian maritime missions, including the Bourbon
Argos and
the Dignity
of
Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children's Vos
Hestia
and MOAS*'s Phoenix
will soon be concluding their own rescue operations for several
months.

Those Who Die, Those Who Arrive and Those Who Remain: The Overcrowded Hotspots at Pozzallo
“What
Europe just doesn't understand is that for migrants arriving in Libya
it's less risky to try and escape across the sea that to try and go
back to their home countries”, says A., a young Senegalese man who
arrived in Italy two years ago. Like many of his countrymen, he's
following the rescue operations on the TV, shot through with a sense
of momentary relief between the
powerlessness and rage. “Anyone who hasn't been
in Libya cannot imagine what it means to live there. Every European
has a mobile, in the same way every Libyan, however old, walks around
with a gun in his hand. But no one in Italy wants to hear about
this.”

Died at age 15 on a ship of Doctors Without Borders, “Beaten up in Libya and left without water and food for days”
Via Meridionews – The ship of Doctors Without Borders
that was moored at the harbor of Augusta today saved 300 migrants and brought
one body. It is the body of a fifteen-year-old Somali boy. When he was found
with the other refugees in the Sicilian canal two days ago, his condition was
severe but not critical. Aboard, he was treated immediately by the NGO’s
paramedics and seemed to respond well to the treatment. Yesterday, however, he
died of heart failure.
