New migrant tragedies in front of the Lybian coast. The patrol boats given to Gaddafi have turned their motors off, 5th november 2012We've said it time and time again, but no one ever listens. The Immigration Emergency has to end (at least on paper) by the 31st December 2012. Reception facilities, which have cost a fortune from the very moment the State of Emergency was declared by Berlusconi in February 2011, will be closed and as for the boats that continue to arrive- we must speak about them as little as possible, the old bilateral agreements still stand.

 I AM WITH MAZZEO, 2nd september 2012
The association Borderline Sicilia Onlus expresses its solidarity and support for the journalist and writer Antonio Mazzeo. A few days ago, the council of Falcone brought a lawsuit against Mazzeo for having written an article which was published in I Siciliani Giovani. The article reported on mafia infiltration in some of the council's contracts and the devastating impact this has had on the local area. Measures to revoke the decision of the Catania COA (Consiglio dell'Ordine degli
Avvocati: Bar Council) on asylum seekers' access to legal aid.
The decision of the COA, which resulted in the suspension of all requests for legal aid put forward by asylum seekers -particularly those from the Mineo CARA- was revoked on the 15th May 2012 by the introduction of a measure by the very same COA.
When migrants appeal against the Commission's decision to reject International Protection, theobstacle to their right to a defence has now been removed as a result of the appeal against thismeasure, which two members of Sicilian section of ASGI (Associazione Studi Giuridici sull'
Immigrazione: Association for Judicial Studies on Immigration) maintained as illegal in front of
the Catania TAR(Tribunale Amministrativo Regionale: Regional Administrative Tribunal).
The text of the decision will be published shortly.
