Antoniomazzeo.blogspot.it – The millions of Euros circulating in the migrant “welcoming” business in Italy are not only handed over to pseudo-cooperatives and fake non-profits, but even a construction company and a publicly limited company entirely in government ownership. This much can be gleaned from the “Report on the Working of the Reception System Established for Dealing with the Extraordinary Needs Connected to the Exceptional Arrival of Foreigner Citizens into National Territory (2015)”, presented on 13 March 2017 to the President of the Senate of the Republic by the Minister of the Interior.
migrantsicily is a window on the situation of migrants in Sicily. The blog is part of project which monitors the situation and offers intervention in response to the every day and emergency migration politics of the Italian government concerning the flux of refugees from the Maghreb region and Libya.

The Deal with Libya and Migrant Raids: Italy and the EU's Approach to Immigration Is Increasingly Disturbing
Press release.
Borderline Sicilia is deeply concerned about the agreement signed in Malta today between Italy and Libya, as well as about the telegram sent by Giovanni Pinto (Chief of Border Police) to Italian police stations on January 26th, which ordered the tracking down of undocumented Nigerian citizens in order to place them in detention centres and deport them. This meant that it is not only their lack of papers which has been given as a criteria for the operation, but also connection with a specific nationality.

Do Not Lose Hope and the Strength to Always Be There
2016 has ended, and rereading some of the reports from the year just passed, the title of the last report from 2015 stands out: “Thankfully, 2015 Is Over”.
We cannot reprise the title while just changing the days, because 2016 has been even more deadly, and the dynamics still more repetitive, and have even become more violent than 2015. The numbers of daily massacres are terrifying, the official data speaking of more than 5,000 dead. People have never been killed in sea like this year, and these numbers do not do justice to all those who have died before and after the crossing.

Hotspot and deferred refusals: the Lampedusa-model
In Agrigento, the situation regarding
“refoulement” and expulsion of asylum seekers is getting worryingly high. Since
September, the Agrigento Police Station (Questura) has been issuing deferred decisions
on refusal of entry towards migrants coming from Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast,
Guinea, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, Somalia, Eritrea, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.
The reasons are different. Generally, as
confirmed by the vice Prefect in a meeting held in Agrigento on December, 3rd,
the migrants who are not part of the reception system because of lack of
capacity in accommodation centres, have been rejected without getting any
information regarding the procedures for the recognition of international
protection. Moreover, the deferred refusals are systematically notified to
citizens coming from North African countries.

Agrigento: Hundreds of refugees, among them people from Somalia and unaccompanied minors, rejected and left out on the street
“Seven Days,” that is how refugees call the order for “delayed deportation”
according to section 10 paragraph 2 of the unified text about migration which
asks them to leave Italian territory from the airport Fiumicino in Rome in the
course of seven days. During the last months, this happened to hundreds of
people and, how the last days showed, the numbers are increasing. The province
Agrigento is home to the most severe situation, which is not a coincidence.

Agrigento: Deportation of asylum seekers – press release
Borderline
Sicilia expresses concerns over the fate of approximately ten asylum seekers
whose asylum applications were declined by officials in Agrigento last week. A
deportation order was also issued against them.
Apparently,
these deportation orders, which were issued after a hearing of the asylum
seekers, were unfounded. Rather, they are based upon a recent decision to
enforce two guidelines that came into effect on September, 30th.

Doctors without Borders in Pozzallo: “100 ‘vulnerable’ migrants expelled”
From Palermo.blogsicilia

last weeks. Among them are women, also pregnant, minors and “vulnerable”
persons who experienced “extremely hard journeys and who necessitated medical
care” – as condemned by Doctors without Borders (Msf). The organization is
concerned “about this unexpected change in the identification practices” and
awaits “clarification from the responsible authorities”.
