76 MIGRANTS ARRIVE IN MARINA DI RAGUSA

A twenty metre vessel with 76 migrants aboard arrived in Marina di Ragusa between Punta Scalambri and Caucana between 5.30 and 6am. The migrants were transferred on to the boats of the Port Authorities. It appears that the migrants, who are all men, are Egyptian - although it is yet to be officially confirmed. It also appears that there were some minors on board.
There have been reports of some deaths at sea. yet these reports too are yet to be confirmed.
The rescue on- going rescue operation is expected to finish later on this morning. Some migrants have already been taken to hospital; whilst it would appear that others have been taken to a sports centre in Pozzallo, due to the lack of places at Pozzallo's First Reception Centre.
This is the first boat of the season to arrive in the Ragusa Province. It is likely that in the upcoming months further boats will arrive.
