At around 7am, a member of the general public alerted the coastguard after a wooden boat arrived in Porto Palo di Capo Passero in the Province of Syracuse. The men from the Port Authorities stopped 8 illegal immigrants immediately, who maintained that were a total of 106 people aboard. Shortly afterwards the number of migrants who had been found had risen to 35: the search for the others is ongoing.
