35 migrants arrive by boat in Sicily

SYRACUSE. The men from the Port Authorities stopped 8 illegal immigrants immediately. They declared that there were 106 migrants aboard in total, including 50 women. The search for the other migrants is underway. This morning a boat of migrants arrived in Sicily.

At around 7am, a member of the general public alerted the coastguard after a wooden boat arrived in Porto Palo di Capo Passero in the Province of Syracuse. The men from the Port Authorities stopped 8 illegal immigrants immediately, who maintained that were a total of 106 people aboard. Shortly afterwards the number of migrants who had been found had risen to 35: the search for the others is ongoing. The illegal immigrants (including 50 women) stated they were Eritreans who had set sail from Lybia. The boat upon which they travelled to Sicily was found close to the shore, with its motors still on.
